August 16-17, 2019: Gauvin Family Reunion – Moncton, New Brunswick

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!  The Gauvin reunion is organized by the Gauvin Association of America and will be in Moncton, New Brunswick in August 2019.

Also, from August 10-24, 2019, the Acadian World Congress, a festival of Acadian and Cajun culture held every five years, will also be taking place on Prince Edward Island and the communities along the southeastern shore of New Brunswick.

Grand Central Hotel in Magog

In 2008, a few of us enjoyed a cool drink in the bar of what was the Grand Central Hotel in Magog, Canada.  This hotel was owned by the Gauvin family and my grandfather Odilon ran the hotel until 1946. Odilon, Regina and family then moved to Sherbrooke for a short time before moving to Lewiston, Maine in 1947.

The hotel was built around 1890 on Main Street, near the train station, under the name Central Hotel. In 1906, the name was changed to Grand Central Hotel.  As of September 2018, the building is not in use.
